The CleanUp 2026 Technical Tour is scheduled for Thursday 17 September 2026. Tour tickets are charged per person and are not included in registration fees and are an additional expense. Technical Tour registration fees are in Australian dollars and inclusive of GST.
Light working Lunch is included.
Participants are required to wear long pants, long-sleeved tops, and closed shoes (no sandals or thongs).
Schedule
The tour will include the following three sites1. Port of Adelaide's former wastewater treatment plant
2. Penfolds Winery Estate
3. SA Water Bolivar biosolids facilities (Proposed)
The plan is to depart by chartered bus at 9:00 AM on Thursday, 17 September 2026, and return to the Adelaide Convention Centre at around 4:00 PM.
A working lunch will be provided during the tour.

About the Sites
1. Port Adelaide, former wastewater treatment plant
The Port Adelaide Wastewater Treatment Plant was established in the mid-1930s and treated wastewater from Adelaide’s western suburbs for approximately 70 years. Potentia purchased the Plant in 2022 following a tender process with SA Water. The transaction involved a section 103E Transfer of Liability agreement. The plant closed in the 1990s, when wastewater was diverted to the Bolivar treatment plant. Infrastructure remaining on the site consisted of screens, filters, aeration tanks, pumping equipment, heritage buildings and sludge lagoons. The sludge lagoons were excavated and backfilled in the late 1970s during the construction of West Lakes.
A variety of environmental investigations were completed over a twenty-year period, providing a wealth of soil and groundwater data. This data was used along with new data collected during due diligence and shortly after purchase to develop a remediation plan. Remediation works have progressed along with geotechnical preparation of the site to allow construction of houses, townhouses, future apartments and commercial buildings.
The site visit will focus on challenges encountered during the development of the site, including addressing community concerns, navigating land rezoning requirements, the transfer of liability process in South Australia, as well as the physical work of remediating the land.

2. Penfolds Winery Estate

The tour of Penfolds Winery Estate, Magill, will take approximately one and a half hours. The tour includes wine tasting, wine purchasing and a technical presentation of wastewater management by the Penfolds Technical Team.
