WELCOME FROM OUR CEO

On behalf of crcCARE and the CleanUp 2026 Organising Committee, I invite you to join us for the biennial International CleanUp Conference on 13 - 17 September 2026 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide, Australia.

Distinguished guests, colleagues, and friends,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2026 CleanUp Conference, a milestone event that marks nearly three decades of dedicated efforts in addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity—environmental contamination and its impact on health and well-being.

Since our inaugural conference in February 1996 under the banner of Soil Contaminants Research Australasia Pacific, we have witnessed remarkable advances in understanding and managing environmental contaminants. More so, the number of delegates have grown from 246 in 1996 to nearly 700 in 2024. In 2007, our identity evolved to become simply *CleanUp*, reflecting our expanding scope and unwavering commitment to fostering innovative solutions for a contaminated world.

A key driver behind our progress has been the invaluable contributions of crcCARE, established in 2005. Over the years, crcCARE has played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of this conference series. Their leadership has facilitated groundbreaking research, high-impact journal publications, and the editing of influential books. Notably, crcCARE has produced nearly 50 technical guidance documents and a number of innovative technologies that are now utilized by consultants, regulators, and agencies worldwide—setting standards and providing critical reference points for effective environmental management.

The *CleanUp* conference series continues to serve as a vital platform that aligns with crcCARE’s vision: to strengthen connections among local and international scientists, regulatory agencies, consultants, and industry stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures that we remain at the forefront of contaminant management, often leading many countries in research, innovation, and policy development.

Environmental contaminants have emerged as one of the most complex and formidable issues confronting global society—from industrial chemicals and emerging pollutants to PFAS and beyond. Our collective efforts are more crucial than ever. The recent success of the PFAS symposium, which attracted delegates from North America, Europe, and the Tasman, exemplifies the international scope and significance of our work. We are confident that this conference, with its diverse and cutting-edge program, will continue to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange, making this another outstanding event.

This year’s conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, a premier venue situated in the vibrant heart of South Australia. For those joining us with spouses and families, there will be significant opportunities to explore some of Australia’s most iconic attractions, including world-renowned wineries, stunning coastal scenery, and cultural sites—offering an enriching experience beyond the conference.

What makes this year's gathering especially promising is the growing recognition from the medical and scientific communities of the profound connection between environment and human health. For too long, environmental issues and health concerns were addressed in silos. Now, with increasing evidence and collaborative efforts, we are witnessing a paradigm shift—where environmental management and medical science are converging, working hand in hand to safeguard human health.

This synergy gives us renewed confidence that we are finally moving in the right direction—towards integrated approaches that recognize the environment as a fundamental determinant of health. It is heartening to see professionals from diverse disciplines united by a common goal: to protect our environment, improve public health, and ensure a safer, cleaner future for all.

Reflecting on our 2024 conference, which was an outstanding success, I am pleased to say that our dedicated team is working tirelessly to ensure that CleanUp 2026 event will be even more impactful. We have curated a program filled with cutting-edge research, innovative technologies, and inspiring discussions—aimed at advancing our shared mission.

I extend my deepest gratitude to all participants, speakers, sponsors, and organizers who are making this event possible. Your commitment and collaboration are the driving forces behind our progress.

In closing, I invite you all to join us in Adelaide with a view to engaging actively, sharing ideas openly, and forging new partnerships that will propel us forward. Together, let us continue to confront the challenges of environmental contamination with renewed vigour, scientific rigor, and unwavering resolve.
